I just received an email from Lonely Planet. The headline was "Best Value Destinations". I am always up for a great deal, so I read on, hoping that the best deals would not be found in a war zone, or close to it. It was therefore exciting to see that they listed fun places such as Rio in Brazil, Gothenburg in Sweden, Spain in general, Nepal, and many more.
Even if you are not in a position to plan your next vacation yet, it is always fun to dream.

Rising more than 1200 meters over the crowded Costa del Sol, La Concha (the shell) peak is a characteristic mountain calling to those ones more interested in the heights and bare rocks than in sandy beaches and luxury lifestyle of the holidays resorts and golf clubs of Marbella. This massive block of limestone is the first one of an interesting group of ‘sierras’ which extends from the Mediterranean Sea coast towards the interior lands of Andalucía.

We do not often as for your help, but today is an exception. Homeaway is now running a competition for all of their owners, where we are to collect as many “Likes” and other forms of Social Media Marketing posts. Can you please help us out?

One day in September we decided that we would check out Morocco on our trip to Costa del Sol. The main reason was so that we could claim that we had been to Africa. We did some searching online, and found what we thought to be a ferry ride to Tangier, Morocco, followed by a guided bus and walking tour in the narrow streets and back allies. This is the story of how we got lost before the trip begun and eventually rode a camel, in Africa.
In June of 2011 Columbia Pictures came to the small of Júzcar, in the Andalusia region of southern Spain, to film their new movie called “The Smurfs". To make the filming easier, the entire pueblo (village) was painted in Smurf-blue, with the promise to return it to the original white after the filming was over. However, in December the same year, the village and their 200 inhabitants, voted to keep the village blue. They had seen a great surge in tourism and business was booming. This is the story of our trip to the smurfiest town in the world, on our way to the final destination of Ronda.
We were walking around in the old district of Marbella, when my good friend, Paul, became cranky. His girlfriend told us it was a sure sign of low blood sugar, and only a great meal of Tapas would fix the issue. We ran into a local lady, who was closing up her shop. She said to get out of the tourist restaurants of Old Town, and head towards the sea. A few right and left and straights, and we should find a “hole in the wall” tapas place called Santiago. Paul said he would make it without turning into a hypoglycemic monster, so we turned our nose towards the salty waters and kept walking. This is the story of how we ended up with some fantastic tapas, plenty of sangria, and all at a cheap price.
Are you an experienced diver? Never snorkeled before? It doesn’t matter! When we last visited La Cala de Mijas on Costa del Sol, we had a group of people from all different backgrounds and experience levels. My wife generally hyperventilates when she gets a snorkel in her mouth and the water hits the tip of her chin. I have done about 20 dives myself, and the other 2 in the group had little to no experience. Together we had a fantastic day diving with a Fuengirola based company called Simply Diving. Here is our story of our fantastic 1-day adventure!
Like most pet owners, I as well, happen to be one that would rather bring my pets with me on vacation, than leave them with a sitter or place them in boarding. For a while now, I have been planning to bring my Border collie mix, Sara and domestic cat, Alfred, to my childhood home on the countryside of Stockholm. In addition to Stockholm, Sweden, we also went down to La Cala de Mijas, Spain for 10 days. As our two rental properties needed some maintenance before the winter season. Here is the story of how we did it, paperwork to file, and things to look for.
Costa del Sol is by far the most inexpensive holiday resort in Spain for a late summer getaway, according to MyTravelMoney.co.uk.
The travel finance website compared the average price of holiday essentials - including flights, hotel rooms, drinks, taxi and a meal for one - across popular Spanish holiday destinations, to discover which offered the best value option.
Take a 7 minute walk from our Vacation Rental apartments in La Cala, on a Wednesday or a Saturday, and you can find yourself at La Cala Market, one of the many local markets in Costa del Sol. Here you can purchase anything from fresh fruits and vegetables, to clothing and pottery. Negotiation is possible, but you will generally get a great deal right off the bat.
In ancient times Fuengirola was known as Suel and then Suhayl. Today it is a large town and municipality on the Costa del Sol in the province of Málaga, autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. Fuengirola is a major tourist resort, with more than 8 km of beaches, and home to a medieval Moorishfortress.
Festival highlights include the city's carnival in February, Holy Week celebrations approaching Easter, the Fiesta de San Juan (Feast of St. John) each June, and the La Virgen del Carmen celebrations in July - which features a parade of local fishermen. Also worth noting, the Feria de Malaga is a spectacular event which takes place each August, when the whole city seems to party.
