Private Jacuzzi on terraceOur first holiday rental apartment in La Cala de Mijas is named Coral Reef. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath high end home, with everything you would expect to find in your neighbor's home and more. It includes a Jacuzzi on the terrace, everything you need for traveling with babies and toddlers, PlayStation 3 game console, bicycles, WiFi, HDTV, Sky Satellite and much more. One of the first websites we advertised on was spain-holiday.com. Since they have been so kind to let us republish some of their articles about places to visit in the area, we figured we would give them another link. tripadvisor - rated excellentAll of last month we had a review competition, where our previous guests could review their stay and thereby enter into the drawing for prizes. There were 6 sites to review on, and every entry gave our guests another chance to win. We had a great response to our competition, which also included perviously entered reviews. Today, October 1st, 2013 was the drawing to see who won. The entire drawing was video taped and published further down in this article (forgive the hat-hair).

nerja cavesThe caves were discovered on January 12th 1959, by five local boys from the nearby village of Maro. They had spent the night watching bats coming into and leaving a local pothole known as "La Mina" - the mine.

They decided to explore further, chipping away at some of the rocks and stalagmites that blocked the entrance.

What they discovered was nothing short of spectacular. The first large cavern they came across contained several skeletons and ceramics. They had inadvertently stumbled on one of the most important geological finds of our era.

In the words of Professor Jose Luis Sanchidrian, from the University of Cordoba, describing the recent carbon dating of six seal paintings as "an academic bombshell" and having "no parallel in Palaeolithic art."

El AcebuchalOne of the most beautiful and hidden villages in the Axarquia. The lost village of El Acebuchal.

There are various names associated with the village of El Acebuchal – “the Lost Village” and “the Ghost Village – el Pueblo Fantasma,” are the two that seem to be most commonly used.

Today, Acebuchal is an exceptionally beautiful hamlet situated right in the heart of the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park. It sits almost on the border between Frigiliana and Competa

If staying in the area you couldn't hope for a better day trip. Spectacular scenery, great food and village that is most definitely ‘lost’ in time.

map of costa del sol spainMost Scandinavians and those who call the United Kingdom home have been to Mediterranean at least once while growing up. A rainy summer with cold waters is not the ideal holiday for your average person. When we had the opportunity to buy a home from home we did our research and found Spain to be the perfect place for us to invest. While northern Spain has much to offer we found that Costa del Sol, in the far southern portions of Spain, to offer more to more people. Since our home from home would also double as a self-catering holiday rental home when we were not there, Costa del Sol was the perfect match for us. The only question now: where should we buy?

Nexus 7"Ahhhhh! I just can't wait to go on holiday, to disconnect, o get away from emails, Internet, and everything else electronic". Okay, that is the idyllic dream I have of a real holiday. Unfortunately it doesn’t match up with the truth at all. As with most people, I want Internet and all the great things that come along with it. I NEED Internet! However, with the tight restrictions on budget airlines’ weight and space restrictions it is very impractical to bring a laptop along for the ride. That is why we have decided to include an Internet-ready Tablet in each of our apartments. “Tada! Coming…in October this Fall…To a holiday rental near you…Google Nexus, running the latest Android operating software!” What is the best part of it all for you? It won’t cost you anything extra to use it.

oktoberfest in La Cala de MijasYou must check this out! It is the first annual Gran Oktoberfest in La Cala de Mijas. Why will there be an Oktoberfest in La Cala in July? We have no idea, but it is a seriously good excuse to have large beers and amazing German food, even on a weekday. Of course Oktoberfest is celebrated in late September even in Germany, so perhaps the Spaniards are ahead of the rest of the world, by about 2 months.

la cala de mijas - sealOkay, so it isn't really an idiot's guide, but it sounded so catchy. What we have done is to gather the most important facts about La Cala de Mijas from various sources, and put it on one informational poster. Did you know that La Cala de Mijas was once known as La Cala del Morales? No, well you do now :) The name was changed back in the 1970s, to avoid confusion with another town with the same name, located just outside of Malaga.

Okay, so this might be a strange start, since we own Spanish Vacation Rental, but hear me out. Not too long ago we received an enquiry that caught our attention. Jenni from the US was married to a Spaniard, together they owned a house in Calahonda, and they needed to rent it out while they move to the US for a while. Jenni was not looking to rent from us, but to get some advice, which we were more than happy to provide. Knowing that they purchased and furnished their home to live in it, I knew it would be an excellent addition to the holiday rental market in Mijas Costa; a real home (away) from home. So far we have had to turn down over 250 interested travelers, because our homes were already reserved. With this new, amazing-looking home coming on the market, you have a real chance of getting the dates you wanted. And best of all, you’ll get €50 off, just by mentioning that you heard about it here. Don’t let this chance slip you by! Read on to learn more, and to see some brilliant photos.
